A Christmas Message From Sam
Dear beautiful souls of the Cannings family,

As we conclude the year, I reflect on my 15 years in business and feel nothing but gratitude for the stability you have bestowed upon my business, the Cannings staff, and all of our families. Your continued choice to support local business has a real, meaningful impact. Please don't underestimate its importance. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Christmas is an interesting time where people with differing views and opinions converge to share their consciousness, in joy, with one another. Sometimes, the temptation to “enlighten” those around us with how we perceive the world is too great, and we unknowingly pivot away from love and toward righteousness—because we want to help the people we care for. We want them to know what we know so they can live as we do.

I notice this in myself as much as in anyone. These judgments and opinions that divide us all seem to stem from the same place: fear of not being right, fear of lack, fear of losing control, fear of not being accepted, fear of not knowing and fear of safety. Then there's the anger, guilt, shame (at ourselves and others) for having these fears in the first place. Most of which is happening without us being fully aware. What a drainer!

Could it be that gratitude is the answer? When in gratitude, I sense the shift in perception from lack and fear to the recognition of wholeness and abundance that is already here. I also notice that gratitude doesn't live in the past or the future—it exists only in the Now—the realm of the heartspace. By resting in gratitude, the thinking mind gets a holiday, and the heart can open to peace and love.

Therein lies the invitation—to let yourself off the hook this Christmas. Fall into the void of not knowing. Surrender to the bliss of not knowing the answer to anything. Let go of your position on this and that, on him and her, on us and them. In that sweet surrender, we make room for love to speak through us—not with words of persuasion, but with a quiet presence that needs no defense. Perhaps we can anchor our conversations around gratitude, and remind ourselves that nobody actually knows anything, and all anyone truly wants, beneath everything, is lasting peace, love, and joy.

This Christmas, may there be presence over presents., and forgiveness over grievance.

Much love, my friends

Sam C
