Insights from Sam Canning: Take home meals (survey inside!)

When I made the decision to move into the take-home-meal space, the concept was that the meals needed to be of a quality that matched that of a homemade meal. Almost indistinguishable from what you could make at home. For a while I believe we achieved something similar to this, but over the years, as we have grown, this has become harder and harder to achieve due to the scalability required to keep up with the sheer volume of the take-home-meal category. This is not due to a reduction of quality ingredients. It's more to do with the batch sizes and "production line" effect.
Take-home-meals are a tricky category to get right. Believe it or not, they are a low margin category, they take up a lot of space and create quite a lot of work. I'm curious about your views on this topic. What do you think about the take-home-meal category? How important is it to you? How important is variety to you (we currently have 20 lines in this category)? Your comments on this topic are appreciated, but if you are feeling like getting even more involved in the process, please participate in this short survey we have created. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
